He said it: "As a racing driver, you love two things -- grip and horsepower. We had both of those two things, combined with a track that's been newly resurfaced or grinded or whatever you want to call it. Everybody is trying to protect those rear tires and protect that grip that you're going to need through the entire race."

What to watch: Tristan Vautier continues to impress in his second IZOD IndyCar Series race. He starts third. ... Team Penske has won the three races at this track. Will Power, who won in 2012 and 2011, starts second and Helio Castroneves, who won in 2010, is sixth.

Did you know: Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing has finished second in each of the races at Barber. Dixon, who set the track record in qualifying, starts fourth. “I don't think we would have had enough for Ryan, but definitely I think enough for maybe second position. But it’s still a great starting position. Hopefully we can improve a few,” Dixon said.
