Row 2 starter Sato leads Long Beach warm-up

LONG BEACH, Calif. --Takuma Sato, who qualified fourth for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in the No. 14 ABC Supply car for A.J. Foyt Racing, led the 27-car field in the morning warm-up for the 80-lap race with a lap of 1 minute, 08.5388 seconds on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street circuit.
Josef Newgarden, who recorded his first top-10 finish on April 7 at Barber Motorsports Park, was second on the time sheet (1:08.5409) in the No. 67 Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing car. Both cars are powered by Honda. E.J. Viso, driving the Chevrolet-powered No. 5 Team Venezuela/Andretti Autosport/HVM car, was third (1:08.5475).

Dario Franchitti will start from the pole in the No. 10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car and reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay qualified second. Will Power and Sato will share Row 2, while Mike Conway and Helio Castroneves are on Row 3. All but Sato are former winners of the race.
Rookie Tristan Vautier, who qualified 19th in the No. 55 Lucas Oil car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, will incur a 10 grid spot penalty because of an unscheduled engine change. Vautier had qualified on the first three rows in the previous two races.
Seventh quick in the warm-up, Vautier will take the green flag in the 27th starting position.
