Hinchcliffe posts quickest lap in first practice

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- James Hinchcliffe enjoyed the action on the Long Beach street circuit today that he missed out on at Barber Motorsports Park on April 7.
Hinchcliffe, driving the No. 27 GoDaddy.com car for Andretti Autosport, topped the time sheet for the initial practice session for the 39th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. A second session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (ET) with real-time Timing & Scoring and the IMS Radio Network broadcast on indycar.com.

Hinchcliffe had a best lap of 1 minute, 09.8157 seconds on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn course. Mike Conway, who won the race in 2011 with Andretti Autosport, was second in the No. 17 blu eCigs car for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (1:09.8290) and Takuma Sato was third (1:10.0180) in the No. 14 ABC Supply car for A.J. Foyt Racing.
Simona de Silvestro was fourth and reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion and 2010 Long Beach race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay was fifth.
Hinchcliffe, who won the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., on March 27, watched the final 86 laps of the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama from behind the Turn 3 wall after his car sustained left-rear wheel damage.
